My bike history goes like this:
1968 – Li’l Indian mini bike with 3hp Briggs & Stratton engine. What fun!
1969 – Rupp Roadster, a bigger mini bike, 5hp, real tires, it was sharp.
1970 – Honda trail 70, 4 speed with a real clutch, I put over 10,000 miles on that bike. At age 14 I got a motorcycle license and a tag. Every day after school, I went to the kitchen to eat a peanut butter cup, then straight out to hop on the bike and go. Rode it everywhere, on and off road.
1986 – ’78 Yamaha DT 175, street legal but off roadable. Stolen about 2 years later.
2002 – ’86 Kawasaki KDX 200, strictly off road, named Elsie the kaw.
2006 – ’99 Honda Shadow Aero 1100, named Gus, that y’all have seen. It is bone stock (other than seat and windshield) and just turned 10,000 miles.
From the first ride on the Li’l Indian, my blood was permanently infected with this addiction to motorcycles. I must say that riding the big street bike has been way more fun than I had expected. And it is so nice to just get on and go, unlike all the loading and hauling and so forth for the dirt bike, though I still love and do that too.
Every time I walk through the garage I stop and remark “That sure is a purdy bike!”
I can’t be a weekly rider, but I’ll show up now and then. Thanks for being such a welcoming group of riders!
